Company Wide Portal Offering a Single Source of Information and Reduced Access
Times for Critical Information
A company wide initiative to provide a single source of information across the
various departments.
The challenge
-
Lack of a single source of Information: If
a department head needed to look up employee information, there was a separate
application than the one that was used to look up customer information (or Order
Information). There were too many sources of information - each source providing
just one small piece of a larger picture.

Long wait times to get business critical
information: Certain simple information requests (e.g. looking up a customer's order history), would take far too long - and often involved manual steps.
The Solution
Using Websphere Portal 6.0 and Oracle 9i, Anuj helped build a company wide
portal that tied the various departments together. The solution included:
- Websphere Portal and J2EE Architecture :
Including various portlets for accomplishing individual tasks such as Security,
Order Management etc.
- Business Objects Development - Designed
and built entire reporting infrastructure around SAP BI tools for Peoplesoft.
This included a variety of ad-hoc reports generated from the underlying
PeopleSoft data as well as reduced access times for existing business data.
The Result
- Company Wide Portal serving as a Single Source of Information:
Created a company wide portal that offered an integrated view into various
departments within the company and reduced access times for business critical
information.
- Allowed cleaner and faster interaction between departments that hitherto relied on manual, time consuming information exchange.
- Offered enhanced reporting capabilities: Using Business Objects' B.I. tools, several important ad-hoc reports were created - offering insight into historical data.
