The text cursor changes and you are unable to INSERT anything in between text.

Symptoms
In Visual Studio (any version), the text cursor changes to a blinking grey box which overwrites the text in front of it.

Solution

Lower right corner of Visual Studio should have an INS/OVR label. Doubleclicking that should fix it.
