This entry is part 4 of 5 in the series Corruption Watch

Rajiv would have joined Anna.

History does repeat itself. When the philosopher (Gandhi) took his cause to the streets, Nehru (the politician) joined him. In fact, Nehru went to prison more often than Gandhi – and spent an astonishing 9 years of his life in jail!

Do we see anyone in today’s Gandhi family with that kind of courage? I would like to see Rahul sitting alongside Anna – because I am convinced that were his father alive, that is what he would have done. Rajiv, like Anna, was never about the ‘power’ – he was all about the ‘change’.

Like most other Indians of my generation, I never got over Rajiv Gandhi’s loss. He still remains India’s Kennedy – with a futuristic vision of India that few leaders have been able to replicate. And like the bright visionary Kennedy, Rajiv’s life too, was cut short.

A top LTTE leader recently apologised to India for the “mistake” of killing former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. Apology not accepted! It is not just a mistake to kill India’s future! There is no way to apologize or make up for it. If he truly wants to make up for the loss that India faced, let him spend the rest of his living days helping eradicate the many evils that India faces (instead of supporting and leading a terrorist organization). This is like Hitler apologizing for the mistake of ‘misjudging’ jews.

Come on Rahul and Sonia. Are you truly interested in ‘changing’ India – or in securing your leadership position? Anna’s movement is the greatest change that our generation will witness. History will remember those who supported it – and those who shied away from it (silence is also not acceptable).
