I am still not sure why Adobe (the company) does not offer an online editing tool for editing pdfs. Until they offer something like this, one has to rely on 3rd party vendors who have filled in this gap. My first stop here is PdfEscape.com – an online editing tool (no download required on your desktop). Failing that, I use a product called Nitro Pdf (which needs to be downloaded to your desktop).

  1. PdfEscape.com – A simple, intuitive web based interface. Lets users upload existing pdfs, add images, text and all other normal PDF editing tasks. While PdfEscape  works for me 99% of the time, every now and then, it has problems opening certain PDFs (especially Pdfs with embedded images etc.).  When PdfEscape.com fails, I move to my second stop : Nitro Pdf
  2. Nitro Pdf Professional (Free Trial Version) – Although this is a paid product, it offers a 15 day free trial. The trial version is fully functional and lets you open and edit any PDF.  This product seems to work well with any PDF document regardless of what is embedded in it. It also lets you convert from various formats (all MSOffice formats) to pdf.

Summary

If I am ever caught in a situation where I need to edit an existing pdf document in a hurry, I use one of the above two tools. If I need to convert from MSOffice documents to pdfs, the second tool works well.
