Trust is mainly if you have two different forests/domains – and want to treat them as one forest/domain – but ‘different’ is the keyword. You need AWS Managed AD to establish 2 way or 1 way trust.

Synchronization

Sync is when you want to ‘replicate’ the user objects in one AD to another AD – maybe for redundancy / failover reasons. To sync objects, you can use an AD Connector.
