]]> I was looking for an old article from a 1970 journal. I came across a site that allowed me to rent the article for $4.00 . I was happy to pay that price – since it would avoid a trip to a university (which is the only place I would find this article). To my (pleasant) surprise, I discovered that that was just ONE of many publications that I could have access to (full article access). This looked interesting.

DeepDyve.com is the website in question – and their business model seems to be a boon for independent researchers. As per their own marketing verbiage:

Read from thousands of the leading scholarly journals from Springer, Elsevier, Nature, IEEE, Wiley-Blackwell and more.  All the latest content is available, no embargo periods.

Price

$40 / month or $30/month (if paid for the whole year in advance)
