What I wanted was to be able to select a few pages (say pages 1 through 3 – and DELETE everything ELSE – i.e. – INVERT The selection. Unfortunately, amongst all of the 10,000 plus features in MS Word, this simple INVERT MY SELECTION is not one of them.  Using the Highlight and Replace feature, one can delete multiple (contiguous) pages all at once.  Say you want to delete pages 4 through 654 – only keeping pages 1 through 3.

  1. Press F5. Word displays the Go To tab of the Find and Replace dialog box. The Pages option should be selected, by default, at the left of the dialog box.
  2. Type 4 into the Enter a Page Number box and then press Enter
  3. Press F8. This turns on Extend mode.
  4. Press F5. Word again displays the Go To tab of the Find and Replace dialog box.
  5. Type 654 into the Enter a Page Number box and then press Enter. Word jumps to the beginning of page 654 – SELECTING  everything from the last insertion point location because you are using Extend mode.
  6. Press the Delete key.
