Types of DLM Policies

  • Snapshot lifecycle policy— Most Common. These help automate creation and updates of EBS snapshots. These policies can target EBS volumes and target instances.
  • EBS-backed AMI lifecycle policy—For  AMIs that are backed by an AMI. These policies can target instances only.
  • Cross-account copy policy—To automate the copying of snapshots across accounts. This policy type should be used in conjunction with an EBS snapshot policy that shares snapshots across accounts.
